Flazeda Hub: A Blog

Keep up to date with what is going on at Flazeda Hub Belconnen, and hear what our guests have to say from inside our events!

It’s been a long few weeks of lockdown in Canberra and around the country, with little to do on a Friday night whilst all venues are closed. Thankfully, every second Friday since lockdown began Flazéda has been hosting Get Down in Lockdown, an interactive digital show that supports alternative performers while they’re unable to perform at their regular venues. These shows have a wide variety of performers to keep you entertained and a live MC to make sure the audience feels engaged throughout the event.

The shows have been hosted by the wonderful and hilarious Lola Lust, a vision in pink and newbie to Canberra, who has made a name for herself as someone to watch out for with her recent second place at Apprentease ACT. Her quick wits and vibrant energy keep you on your toes for what’s about to happen next on this live streamed show.

Boasting over 70 attendees to the second Get Down In Lockdown, the show was a fantastic night filled with both new and well known performers showing us a peek into their lives as performers in lockdown.

The line-up of performers has been excitingly diverse and ensures that at no point during the show are you bored or feel like you’ve seen the same thing before at every digital show. The production quality of the show has been superb, with Jazida and Miss Cherrybomb running a flawless digital backstage and dropping quick quips back and forth with the MC, maintaining the same energy of the sassy stage managers at their live shows.

Highlights from last weeks show include Billy Texas (@bill_dilfine on Instagram, if you’re not already following you need to be) who created a short art film navigating the emotional rollercoaster of Sydney’s lockdown, while managing to seamlessly include the recurring use of a small rocking horse and introducing the world to the concept of “Roller-Crocs”. Billy also showed off his prowess as a clothing designer, creating a safari suit made entirely of Woolworths bags and wearing it with the same pride as a celebrity debuting at the Met Gala.

The show saw debuts from the fantastic Ravi Oli and Miss Cherrybomb. Ravi Oli showcased their flawless transition from lockdown couch chic to their sharp and handsome drag king persona. Underscored by a delightful Indian instrumental piece, the performance gave an exciting change of pace to the modern drag king pop ballad performances. Miss Cherrybomb took a step out from her well loved backstage presence to show off the sass and attitude we all know and love in a debut burlesque performance. Backed by a high energy K-Pop song, Miss Cherrybomb wowed audiences with her single shot routine and setting herself up with an excellent debut to the burlesque stage.

This week’s rendition brings in a star studded line up set to wow audiences with their amazing talent and creativity in developing fresh and exciting content as lockdowns drag on. Hosted by the phenomenal Sara Martini, Get Down in Lockdown round three is set to be a fantastic night.
